Our HISTORY

Gospel Community Church is a church plant that is following God’s call to love and serve people in Santa Cruz and to share the good news of Jesus Christ!

beginnings

In May of 2018, our small group began gathering each Sunday at Glenn and Jen Davis’ house to worship together and to seek God together as we began planning this new church. Every evening we shared a meal together and studied through the book of Ephesians, seeing what God’s plan is for his church. From the beginning we believed that God was calling us to be a light to our city and to start not only Gospel Community Church, but many other churches in our county. Our heart is to see new leaders trained to reach new people with the love of God.

After a few months, we moved the meetings that began in the living room out to the back porch as our group began to grow. As the group continued to form we prayed that God would provide the right people, a place for us to meet in Santa Cruz, and for financial provision. Over the coming months God answered all those prayers and we began renting our current location at the old “Circle Church” building on the Westside of Santa Cruz.

Our first service in our new location was on October 7, 2018, and we launched a second service on September 29, 2019. We were thrilled to have welcomed into our group many people from our new neighborhood, including many students from UCSC.

In March 2020, the unthinkable happened: COVID-19 sent the world into a lockdown and churches across the country stopped gathering for the first time in centuries. GCC spent eleven Sundays, including Easter, hosting online services, and, on May 31, 2020, we had our first regular service outside on the Circle Church lawn where we would stay until late 2021.

The present

Entering a new season, we needed to find a new location, and, on October 3, 2021, we had our first service at the Santa Cruz Seventh-day Adventist Church. As our congregation grew and the space in the sanctuary dwindled, we added a second worship service on September 24, 2022 . We are thrilled to see our community growing as we welcome guests every single Sunday and faithfully preach the whole counsel of Scripture. We are praying that many more people would join our community over the coming years and, most importantly, come to know our Savior Jesus Christ!

If you are looking for a church or want to know more about Jesus, we hope you’ll join us!

Join us in praying for an important next step

We are praying for God to anchor us in Santa Cruz. If you’d like to participate in helping us realize this goal, consider reading about the Anchored Project and contributing towards a down payment on a future building.
